Teignmouth Art Society was founded in 1948 with the aim of encouraging art in the Teignmouth area. The society is a non-profit making organisation with around 160 members, working in a variety of media. Below, and page by page, you can see our normal activities, and we all hope these will soon resume. For now, mid Covid-19, we are looking to virtual ways to keep our members in touch. But the following outlines how we operate in the good times.
Demonstrations by professional artists are traditionally held once a month on Friday evenings during the autumn and winter months and on alternate weeks we have afternoon workshops run by more experienced members.
During the summer we aim to meet in various locations for outdoor sketching days. Full day workshops are also held for us by professional artists. There are several social events such as the Christmas lunch. Guests are always welcome at any meeting.
We hold several exhibitions a year, the Spring and Summer Exhibitions being held in the Victoria Hall in Shaldon and the pre Christmas Affordable Art Fair in Teignmouth at TAAG. A miniature and portrait competition is held in the spring and awards are presented at the Summer Exhibition.
We welcome anyone interested in art, and membership is open to all on the payment of an annual subscription. Our own Facebook page is full of up to date news, and a newsletter informs members of forthcoming events. We are heavily involved in the Teignmouth Arts Quarter.
Our header photographs change regularly, showing our wonderful art group at work in all weathers and settings. Watch this page as we are asking members to show us their arty workspaces … these will undoubtedly range from kitchen tables to garden sheds and attics. Can’t wait to see these.
