Spring and Summer exhibitions 2021

Meetings and exhibitions were disrupted during 2020 but we are hopeful 2021 will be a good year. We are keeping up the spirits with virtual exhibitions on the TAS Facebook page. Also Chris and Linda Dobbs have provided our members with exhibition space at Serenity, 38a Brunswick Street, Teignmouth. This is a key spot within the Arts Quarter, opening from 10am to 4pm.

Spring and Summer exhibitions are held at Victoria Hall, Shaldon, during May and August. All members are invited to submit work. Entries must be the artist’s own original composition and design. Other art forms including sculpture, hand crafted individual prints, etchings, linocuts, digital and photography are encouraged. Entry forms will be posted for future exhibitions.


The 2021 Spring Exhibition is planned to start Friday 28 May and run until Sunday 6 June.

Entries traditionally compete for the following awards:

Allenby Trophy – Best Picture, as voted for by the general public

Haddleton Prize – Miniatures

Marjorie Matthews Tankard – Portrait/Figure

Margaret Howell Award – Flowers


The 2021 Summer exhibition, again Covid dependent, is planned to start Tuesday 17 August and run until Monday 30 August.

Entries traditionally compete for the following awards:

Allenby Trophy – Best Picture, as voted for by the general public

Lewis Cook Award – Best Overall Entry

Margaret Webb Award – Most Innovative

Dawn & John Fricker Award – Landscape

Albert Smith Award – Marine Painting

Jennifer Jenkins Award – 3D Sculpture

David and Jill Harrison Award – Abstract Work

In addition, awards are made for the President’s and Guest of Honour’s Choice.


Affordable Art

We have made provisional arrangements for a 2021 exhibition to run from Friday 26 November to Friday 3 December.

For several years we have run an Affordable Art Fair during December at TAAG, an ideal moment for members to clear out their workshops and cupboards and offer pieces for sale at a good price. Buyers are looking out for Christmas presents and artists can start the new year with a clean sweep. It works very well.

Artists can submit up to 10 items for £5, or up to 20 for £10. This can include two framed and ready to hang pieces, and/or 3D work, unframed mounted pictures or more framed work or canvasses. Depending on the number of entries and the space available one or two framed pieces will be hung for each member. The remaining pieces will be stacked on the floor beneath the hung paintings. You may provide a box in which to stack your paintings or it may be better to bring a browser if you have one. Commission of 15% is taken.

All exhibiting artists are expected to assist with stewarding.

Subscriptions must have been paid before entering exhibits. We will not be accepting membership payments at the exhibition. All items must be clearly labelled with name, medium, title and price, and must bear a society label, hung centrally below the picture. 

Up to a maximum of twenty cards per artist to be sold at £2 each (cards are sold single no double packs please). £1 for 10, £2 for 20.

All payments regarding sales will be made by BACS (bank transfer), so please ensure you keep a record of your work submitted.


Alice Cross Centre

If you would like to join other members in having your paintings displayed at the Alice Cross Centre, there is no hanging fee and 30% of any sales goes to support Alice Cross. Our pictures are really appreciated by the staff and users of the centre, and we do make sales there.
